This year, Giving Tuesday falls on December 1. It’s an entire day set aside for generosity, acts of kindness, and gifting.
If you're considering gifting, the way you give (and how your donation is used) matters.
As a martial arts nonprofit, we provide transparency about where your donation goes and what it makes possible for our Japanese martial arts community.
This article walks through a few simple ways to give with intention this season, so you’ll always know the impact of your giving and how it makes a difference in others' lives.
Start With What Matters to You
Martial arts have provided so many benefits to many individuals. For some, it’s health, improved dedication, or even a teacher who changed your perspective.
Whatever it is, giving can feel personal when you’re connected to the cause.
You might want to help a student travel to a seminar or support a researcher who’s documenting a history that otherwise would be lost.
These experiences can help shape your gift this season.
Choose How You'd Like to Give
There's more than one way to give, and each does something a little different:
- One-time contribution: A simple, direct gift applied where it is most needed, helping students, organizers, and researchers access meaningful opportunities for training and study.
- Directed or honorary contribution: A one-time gift made with a specific intention, such as student travel or research, or in recognition of a teacher, mentor, or lineage.
- Sustaining support: Recurring monthly or annual gifts that give the Foundation stability and allow it to plan.
Know Where Your Gift Goes
A good question to ask of any organization is what your gift can do for others, and where it’s applied.
We’re proud to support students, instructors, organizers, and researchers. Your gift may help provide:
- Travel assistance for students attending seminars or intensives
- Support for seminar and training event organizers
- Grants for research, writing, and documentation
- Assistance for special projects that preserve martial arts traditions
